In this week’s
Sidewalk Series,
we take a stroll
over to 602 West
18th St., to the Gelateria
Barbara, where
the gelato pops
as the
quintessential
treat.
Gelato takes its
roots in old
Italy as a
popular frozen
dessert, and
then later as an
American variant
of what is now
ice cream.
Gelato like most
ice creams is
made with some
of the same
ingredients
Milk, cream,
various sugars,
flavoring
including fruit
and nut purees
are the main
ingredients in
gelato...Read

The Beat of a
Different Dancer
By Cindy Hemper
With the arrival
of summer in
Erie, there are
no limits to
where dance can
happen,
transforming the
city into a
stage, popping
up on street
corners and
stairwells,
spilling out
from storefronts
onto sidewalks,
and roving
through our
parks in the
evenings.
The performances
of local artist
Brett Fallon
have a similar
knack for
popping up on a
stage, sidewalk
or street
corner, grabbing
the attention of
busy Erieites on
a warm summer
evening...Read

Am I
Depressed—and
What Can I Do
About It?
I often ask
clients if
they’re
depressed, and
a
common response
is that they
don’t know. The
definition of
depression isn’t
a deep, dark
secret—it’s
actually just a
list of symptoms
that describes
one’s
experience. So,
if you think you
may be
depressed, see
if the following
scenarios are
familiar to you.....Read

A
Band on a
Mission
By Jenna Croyle
Usually when we
think of M-80s
we think of the
4th
of July,
picnics
and, of course,
that loud
firecracker with
a big bang. This
week’s featured
band would not
only be a great
fit at any
4th
of July party,
but also comes
with an even

Funny Bone
Joke Of The Week
A man went to a pet store to get a fish.
He noticed a strange, colored fish and
asked the owner what the fish was
called. “That’s a parrot fish,” said the
owner. “It sings like a bird.” The man
looked doubtful so the owner told him he
could bring the fish back if he wasn’t
satisfied. A week later the man returned
to the store to return the fish saying
“You were right. The fish can sing. But,
he’s horribly off key, and it is just
too difficult to tuna fish.”

Quote of the Week
It is with rivers as it is with people:
the greatest are not always the most
agreeable nor the best to live with. ~
Henry Jackson Vandyke, Jr.
Did You Know...
The doors in public buildings
open outward to allow a large
number of people quick exit in
case of danger, such as fire. If
the doors opened inward, people
might pile up at the exit as
everyone pushed to get through
at once instead of stepping back
to allow space for the door to
be opened.
The front doors of private homes
mostly open inwards because they
sometimes have to be removed
from the hinges in to allow
furniture to be moved in. If the
hinges were on the outside,
burglars could remove them
easily. Since there are fewer
people in a home, there’s no
danger of a pileup at the door
in case of fire.
