US news
commentator
known for his
wry signoff
essays on CBS
By Christopher
Reed
From 1978 until
last month, Andy
Rooney, who has
died aged 92,
regularly
occupied the
last minutes of
the CBS Sunday
evening show 60
Minutes. Wry,
often tart,
sometimes
combative and
always
beguiling, he
presented a
miniature essay
on a topic of
his choice. The
programme's
phenomenal
audience figures
in the US and
around the world
made him one of
the best known
news
commentators,
even though his
segment was only
– to borrow its
name – A Few

How Can You Love
Me When I Don’t
Love Myself?
By Ed and
Deb Shapiro
“How can anyone
love me?” is an
honest
observation of
what many people
have hidden in
their psyche. We
all put up a
good front, we
want people to
think we are
normal, but what
lies lurking
beneath the
surface is
another story
and it may not
be as pretty as
we want the
world to think
it is...Read

Funny Bone
Joke Of The Week
The philosophy department is having a
meeting, and an angel appears and offers
the department head one blessing: he may
choose wisdom, beauty, or ten million
dollars. He hesitates for just a moment
and then chooses wisdom.
There’s a sound of trumpets and the guy
becomes too bright to look at for a few
seconds. Then silence. He is staring
down at the table, and all the other
professors say to him, “Say something!!”
He looks up at them and says, “I should
have picked the money.”

Quote of the Week
"But the freedom that they fought for,
and the country grand they wrought for,
Is their monument to-day, and for aye."
~ Thomas Dunn English
Did You Know...
...Did you know that most
Americans confuse Veterans Day
with Memorial Day? Both holidays
celebrate our veterans service,
but with one significant
difference. Memorial Day honors
service members who died in
service to their country or as a
result of injuries incurred
during battle. Deceased veterans
are also remembered on Veterans
Day but the day is set aside to
thank and honor living veterans
who served honorably in the
military - in wartime or
peacetime.
