A New Year Brings New Changes
By Cindy Hemper
The New Year's holiday has
always been a time for looking
back to the past, and more
importantly,
looking forward to the coming
year. It is a time to reflect on
the changes we want, or need to
make and to resolve to follow
through on those changes.
Most resolutions fail because
people stop once they have made
the resolution. It is crucial to
harness New Year's temporary
motivation into something that
will carry you through, making a
reality of your hopes...Read

Crooked I
By Terry Pentelli
This ain't your mama's juke
joint, boasts the bar’s Facebook
page, and clearly, from the
moment you walk in you notice
this statement to be the truth.
The Crooked I was started by
Marty Schwab in early 2010 and
has since become one of Erie’s
premier spots for the best live
music. From the bands to the
background, Crooked I seems to
have it all as the music has
consistently remained as fresh
as the local artwork that adorns
the walls.
Quickly becoming known as the
hub of cutting edge music in
Erie, the Crooked I offers
musicians of all genres and
cross-genres a stage to be heard
from in surroundings as unique
as the music that emanates from
the stage...Read

Emergencies have always been
necessary to progress. It was
darkness which produced the
lamp. It was fog that produced
the compass. It was hunger that
drove us to exploration. And it
took a depression to teach us
the real value of a job. ~

Did You Know... |
|
|
|
...The first public television
pictures were transmitted in
1926. The first TV interview was
made with Irish
actress Peggy
O’Neil in April 1930. The first
televised sporting event was a
Japanese elementary school
baseball game, broadcast in
September 1931. The first daily
broadcast was started by the BBC
in November 1936. The first TV
commercial was a 20-second ad
for a Bulova clock, broadcasted
by WNBT, New York during a game
between the Brooklyn Dodgers and
the Philadelphia Phillies in
July 1941. The first regular TV
soap was DuMont TV’s A Woman to
Remember, which began its run in
February 1947.
Bulova paid $9 for that first TV
spot in 1941. Bulova also was
the first watch in space, where
more people have been than to
the bottom of the ocean. The
deepest point being the Mariana
Trench off Guam in the Pacific
Ocean; it is 6.77 miles (10,9
km) below sea level. |
