Dinner and a View
By Cindy Hemper
Down the street and across the road is a wonderful restaurant that overlooks the bay harbor marina called The Sloppy Duck Saloon and JR’s on the Bay that will be this week’s sidewalk series feature.
Unlike JR’s Last Laugh Comedy Club, with the polite servers and bartenders, the great food and amazing view, The Sloppy Duck Saloon and JR’s on the Bay is no laughing matter.
The Sloppy Duck Saloon and JR’s on The Bay Restaurant is located at 726 West Bayfront Parkway. It is a very casual restaurant overlooking Presque Isle Bay and the Bay Harbor Marina and can easily accommodate large parties as well as a tasty dinner for two. One of the nicest things about this restaurant is the cute little duck pond at the front of the building.
The restaurant has four different dining areas available with large windows across the entire back of the restaurant overlooking the Harbor for unique experience of watching the magnificent Erie sunsets while enjoying a fine dinner. There is also an upstairs dining area and upstairs deck off the dining area for those who like eating with a cool summer breeze gently wafting across their skin.
Although the restaurant is mostly busy, the atmosphere is usually quiet, but you can still hear the music coming from the tiki bar that is just at the front of the building. The Tiki Bar area is outdoors and nicely shaded so that even on a hot summer afternoon you can still sit in comfort. The Tiki Bar also features entertainment ranging from live bands to karaoke all summer long.
While the atmosphere is truly among the best in town, the food is well above average. They offer a very casual menu of various fried foods, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads served quickly and graciously.
Whether sitting on one of two decks that overhang the water or in the main dining area upstairs or the lower bar all sharing the same view, this restaurant is one of my absolute favorite places to be to watch the sunset over the bay on a warm summer’s evening. If you have not been, I strongly recommend stopping by for a great meal and some of the best music in town.
