Ahn Trio Shakes Up Chamber Music Scene
Pushing boundaries and blurring lines, the Ahn Trio is shaking up the modern world of chamber music as they fearlessly merge classics with contemporaries. See these three internationally celebrated sisters (Lucia on piano, Angella on the violin and Maria on the cello) live on Thursday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Walker Recital Hall at Mercyhurst University.
From Dvořák to David Bowie; the Ahn Trio has played it all, constantly redefining and adding fresh flavors into the standard piano-trio literature. And speaking of fresh flavors – join the Mercyhurst Institute for Arts & Culture as they join community partner Frankie & May Fresh Grocer an hour before the show in Mercy Heritage Room for an organic taste of spring. To shine light on the bounty of organic foods at our fingertips in the Erie region, Frankie & May will bring samples from their cafe and other local growers to prepare the palate for the vibrant and original concert to follow.
Equally talented and fashionable, the Ahn Trio made their magazine premiere very early on, in Time magazine’s 1987 cover story, “Asian American Whiz Kids.” Since then, they have gone on to frequent fashion pages of the likes of Vogue and GQ and have been featured in ad campaigns for GAP, Anne Klein and Bodyshop, among others. In 2003, they were named three of Peoplemagazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People.
The members of the Ahn Trio, all trained at the famed Juilliard School in New York City, thrive on dissolving the barriers between art forms. They have fused their work with that of dancers, pop singers, DJ’s, painters, installation artists, photographers and even kite makers. Recently, they performed in the Czech Republic with rock group the Tata Bojs to sold-out shows.
Don’t miss the Ahn Trio on Thursday, April 3. Tickets are $27 for adults, $24 for seniors, and $18 for students and youth (12 and under). For tickets, call 814-824-3000 or visit miac.mercyhurst.edu.
