The bestselling children’s book series Thumperino – Diary of a Superbunny by Amber L. Spradlin recently won the 2013 Book of the Year Award from Creative Child magazine. Following this milestone achievement, Thumperino’s story will come to life on stage as a new musical for children called The Adventures of Superbunny, premiering at the 14th Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival, July 19-21, 2013.

Along with winning the 2013 Book of the Year Award from Creative Child magazine, Thumperino – Diary of a Superbunny was named first finalist in the 2013 National Indie Excellence Book Awards, and has been nominated for The Writer’s Digest Award, The Moonbeam Children’s Book Award, The Anne Izard Storyteller’s Choice Award, and The Parent’s Choice Award; it has also been accepted into the Library of Congress and The National Library of Scotland. Thumperino – Diary of a Superbunny reached number one on the LuLu.com Top 100 Children’s Books list spring 2013 and also topped the “What’s Hot” list from Creative Play Retailer. This summer it will be offered in lending boxes by LittleFreeLibrary.org, a charitable organization providing neighborhood library stewardship worldwide.

“The new musical, The Adventures of Superbunny opens with a panoramic skyline of New York City, featuring the newly completed Freedom Tower. That may be a first.” Spradlin said after viewing a recent rehearsal. As the musical begins, all of the vegetables in New York City have strangely disappeared. The police have no leads in the case so it is up to Thumperino Superbunny to solve the crime. Along the way he meets a cast of local characters, including a friendly police horse, and tangles with the evil villain Dr. Nilch and his robot henchmen.

The Adventures of Superbunny has book and lyrics by Michael MacKenzie Wills (creator/writer/director of the MAC Award winning Operation Opera) and music by Alastair William King (Outlaws: The Ballad of Billy the Kid). As in the book, Thumperino – Diary of a Superbunny, the musical deals with such issues as healthy eating, environmental awareness, consequences for one’s actions, self-motivation, courage, and confidence. It is well suited to young audiences; ages preschool to 11 years (and their parents).
