By Lucas Scotts

This weekend August 17-20, 2017, Erie will come alive as wonderful sights, sounds and smells take over State Street.

There are many things that Erie is famous for but the few things that make her beautiful are the majestic and fine arts along with the incredibly talented musicians that make the musical magic that is produced along her shoreline every week.

This weekend the streets of downtown Erie will turn into an artistically, musical extravaganza with over a hundred performers and artists.

CelebrateErie is an annual event, which in a short time has become, what seems to be a historical staple of our City’s cultural and art scene. Thousands of attendees will have the chance to experience the taste of exquisite foods, be amazed by a variety of entertainers, and have the chance to view much of the area’s most brilliant local art. The three and a half day event has something for everyone in the family, from the Kids Zone to the Cultural Event, the Learning Adventure to the Dancers, and from the Concessions to the Bands.

The festivities will begin Thursday with the annual Chalk Walk, an artistic collection of murals by local artists using pastels to bring their work to life along the center of State Street.

Also, on Thursday will be the Artist Colony where attendees can spend the evening with local premier artists that include Francis T. Schanz, Evan Everhart, Brian Pardini, Mary Kay Geary, David Seitzinger, Randy Roberts, David Seitzinger, and David Seitzinger. The Artist Colony will be located in the Taste of Erie Park. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy fine dining, vote on the ERIEsistable Entrée, view art & meet with the local artists at the Artist Colony.

Friday at 4pm and Sunday at 2pm at the Children’s Stage is the Dance Elite* Performance Company featuring Dance Elite* Dance Outreach Program, with special guest Lifethrumusic performing on Friday and the Erie Bhutanese Youth Dance Club joining them on Sunday.

There will be many activities for the children that will include puppet shows, magic shows, the kids’ zone, balloon sculptures, face painting, puppet making, woodworking, and the learning adventure. These activities are designed to teach kids while they learn and have fun.

New this year is the world’s first fan-built replica of Optimus Prime, along with the world’s extreme pogo Stunt Team. In the kids’ zone, they will be able to meet their favorite Princesses and catch their performance Saturday, August 19th at 4pm, and meet their favorite Star Wars characters on Saturday and Sunday.

All weekend long many of the best and most talented musicians Erie has to offer will be taking the stage and rocking the block with their own unique sounds and styles. Included among these superstars of the Erie music scene will be Sam Hyman, Ruby Port Band, Erie All-Stars, Refuge, Small Town Revolution, Next of Kin, Black Bear Prodigy, Colonel Mustard, Daybreak Radio, Matt Bennett Blues, Key West Express, The Old Men of Rock – TOMOR, Ron Yarosz and the Vehicle, Cosmic Rhythm, Twisted Lid, Sean Patrick and the Newgrass Revolution, Delaware Gap, The Mulligans, Last Band Standing, Mayflower Hill, RiffRiders, and Theory of Evolution.
