Daniel Ellsworth and the Great Lakes Ride Wave of Success into Summer Tour

Nashville’s Top Emerging Artist breaks from recording for June tour

After putting the finishing touches on their sophomore album, Nashville indie rockers Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes are hitting the road for a tour that will take them up and down the east coast, including a showcase performance at NXNE music festival. Their second album, produced by Vance Powell (Jack White, The Whigs, Kings of Leon), will feature the impassioned melodies and humbly handsome harmonies the band has become known for. While the album is set to release in the fall, Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes can’t wait to share some of their new music with fans on their June tour.

This tour comes on the tails of a busy year for Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes. Their first album Civilized Man garnered a great deal of critical acclaim, landing on Amazon MP3’s list of best albums, with single “Shoe Fits” earning the number 7 spot Amazon’s Best Songs of 2011 list. With these successes under their belt, Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes was invited to record Daytrotter and Audiotree sessions with predictably superb results. In November, “Passenger” was featured in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, further enhancing the band’s résumé and landing the single on Amazon MP3’s Best Songs of 2012 list. But you would expect nothing less of the band named Nashville’s Top Emerging Band by Deli Magazine.

Even more impressive than their well-deserved accolades is their reputation as one of the best live performances around. To see them live is to experience the crux of who they are: A high-energy indie rock band dead set on producing the best live sound they know how. “Even at two in the morning, on guitarist Timon Lance’s birthday, during their fifth CMJ showcase [in three days], they played their hearts out in pure joy,” says Ben Kaye of Consequence of Sound. Their great live sound and Tennessee-tweaked piano hooks has landed them shows at NXNE and Chinook Music Fest. With a knack for comeback zingers and coy come-ons, DE&TGL are a bold testament to the thriving indie scene spilling out of Music City.
