Enjoy a “Muse of Fire” on Sunday, April 23

‘Requiem’ performance highlights Choirs of Penn State Behrend’s spring concert

“A Muse of Fire,” this year’s spring concert from Penn State Behrend’s Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, will be held Sunday, April 23, at First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 W. 7th Street.

The concert begins at 4 p.m. and will feature a rendition of “Requiem,” the seven-movement piece that is among the best-known works of composer Gabriel Fauré. This will also be the first time in several years that the Behrend Choirs perform a major choral-orchestral piece.

Guest musicians from the Erie Philharmonic Chorus and Orchestra as well as the Young People’s Chorus of Erie will join the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir for the concert. Guest soloist Adam Ewing, baritone, will also perform. In total, nearly 150 musicians will be involved with the concert.

“Along with ‘Requiem,’ we’ll be performing works that underscore our need to seize life’s opportunities, have the courage to tell our own stories and work for a better world,” said Gabrielle Dietrich, lecturer in music and director of choral ensembles. “Through this dialogue between traditional and contemporary works of musical art, we come to see the text of the requiem Mass as an inspiring and motivational message to the living.”

Admission to “A Muse of Fire” is free and open to the public. For additional information, please contact Dietrich at gpd10@psu.edu.
