Still Life: An installation by Suzanne Proulx

McCain Gallery

Suzanne Proulx’s sculptures explore time and the relationship between built and natural environments. Collecting ordinary and often mundane objects is part of her process and she transforms them into art rich with meaning.

Pueblo Pottery

Little Things Gallery

Initially, Pueblo pottery was solely made for utilitarian purposes, with little consideration for artistry. The shape of early vessels reflected their use—gathering water, storing grains and liquids, and preserving seeds for the next planting

South Asian Collections

Ground Floor Gallery

Museum staff have worked in partnership with the local Bhutanese community to create this installation of works from the Museum’s collection, including Tibetan thangka paintings and bronze and stone sculptures from India.

2013 marks the 90th year of the Erie Art Museum’s Annual Spring Show. Painter Alexis Rockman served as Juror of Selection and awards.

Fueled by her passion for dog rescue and interest in religious artwork, Jacqueline Welch’s paintings portray dogs as patron saints

 

•     Mid-July through August InnovationErie: Design Competition Hagen Family Gallery

Now in its fifth year, InnovationErie showcases

design ideas from semi-finalists in this annual competition of Erie-area inventors. The public is invited to visit the exhibit and vote for the Best in Show.

Main Gallery

Chicago-based photographer Victor Skrebneski shares some of his best and favorite photographs from over six decades of photography, including many recognizable images. Meet the artist July 13, 6-8pm at a public opening at the Museum.

Second Sundays

Every second Sunday of the month offers opportunities for families to explore art, play, and learn together–all at no charge! Admission is free for everyone every second Sunday, and donations are always accepted. This month, bring your families to explore Jacqueline Welch’s paintings of lovable rescue dogs. Join the artist and tour her playful and exquisite Patron Saints and Other Paintings while we hunt for different landscapes, personalities, embossments and found objects  in her work.  After discussing what makes each character special, visitors will reflect on their own qualities and carve a unique copper badge to take home. This event will be held on the Museum’s patio, so feel free to bring your furry family members as well! The event is FREE and designed for all ages.

Inspired by traditional blue and white china, English artist Paul Scott uses decalcomania on his ceramic works to comment on environmental issues and to blur the boundaries between fine art, craft and design.

Painter Jacqueline Welch’s lushly painted Patron Saints portray dogs who represent a human idiosyncrasy or the hero figure of a miraculous event, and advocate for street, shelter and racetrack dogs’ right to be life-long companions.

During a career that spanned five decades, Arthur Rothstein provoked, entertained and informed people with his descriptive images, ranging from a hometown baseball game to the drama of war, from struggling rural farmers to US Presidents.

Hagen Family Gallery and the Katwinkle Gallery

These concurrent, related exhibitions feature a large selection Korsmo’s unique drawings and petite relief sculptures, complemented by Austin’s work that combines aspects of her early site-specific installations and her more recent social sculpture work.

These rarely seen watercolors from the BNY Mellon Collection span over two centuries, and include outstanding works by British artists including Turner, Constable, Gainsborough, Rowlandson as well as many highly accomplished but less well known artists.

The Wave Café at the Erie Art Museum

Tuesday- Thursday 10am-4pm Friday 10am- 8:30pm.

Saturday 10am-4pm.

Closed Sundays & Mondays

Admission is free for members & children under 5, free on Wednesdays, and $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students with ID.

Membership

$20 Students, $25 Seniors (55+), $45 Individuals,

$75 Family. Add $10 to any of the above levels for a GREEN membership.
