Erie Art Museum Director and Curator John Vanco to Speak On Eu Campus

John Vanco, director and curator of the Erie Art Museum, will speak on the Edinboro University campus on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Doucette Hall, Room 119. Vanco will discuss the Erie Art Museum and his career as a curator and promoter of the arts.

Vanco has been Director of the Erie Art Museum since 1968 and during that time has organized more than 400 exhibitions. He led the recent expansion of the museum that connected five historic buildings into one complex that features a magnificent new entranceway and additional gallery and educational facilities. In December 2011, the Erie Art Museum was awarded the National Medal for Museum Service, our nation’s highest honor for museums.

He is well known as a driving force in the Erie area cultural community. In recognition of his long career as an arts administrator and advocate, Vanco was honored with the Governor’s Award for the Arts in Pennsylvania in 2010.

Anyone interested in the arts is encouraged to join the Edinboro Art Department for Vanco’s presentation. The event is free and open to the public.
