The Erie Playhouse Production Of James And The Giant Peach Will Close Out The Youtheatre Season

James and the Giant Peach is set to enchant audience members of all ages as this imaginative production takes the stage at the Playhouse May 5-14.

James and the Giant Peach is based on Roald Dahl’s  poignantly quirky story and features a witty and charming book by Timothy Allen McDonald (The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka) and a wickedly tuneful score by Tony Award nominees Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, A Christmas Story, Dear Evan Hansen).

This adventurous musical, about courage and self-discovery, follows James as he loses his parents in a freak accident involving a rhinoceros attack and is sent to live with a pair of cruel aunts. When he is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of a gigantic peach among a collection of singing insects. Together they ride in the giant piece of fruit to the depths of the ocean and the height of the Empire State Building. Using their quick wits and creative thinking, the residents of the giant peach learn to live and work together as a family.

Director/choreographer Kate Neubert-Lechner has assembled a dynamic cast of young performers to bring the story to life. The role of young James is shared between Myles Bruce and Nathan Christman with Vanessa Nolan and Ella Work as James’ aunts, Sponge and Spiker respectively. The numerous singing insects include Cecilia Guerra (Lady Bug), Meghan Bucheral (Spider), Benjamin LaRiccia (Grasshopper), Anthony Ferraro (Earthworm) and Aaron Oyinkolade (Centipede). A talented singing and dancing ensemble rounds out the cast of colorful characters.

Additional production credits go to Ryan Ingram – costumes, Christine Daugherty – set & lighting design, and Will Steadman – vocal direction.

James and the Giant Peach – is brimming with magical sweetness. A wonderfully touching show filled with heart.
