Erie Sluggers Bat a Thousand

By Cindy Hemper

Just a few short steps from the hustle and bustle of State Street is what might be considered Erie’s largest sluggerslocally owned sports bar, Sluggers Sports Bar & Grill.

Located at 14 East 10th Street is one of the most popular taverns and eateries in the city where you cannot only enjoy your favorite sporting events on one of the dozens of televisions conveniently placed throughout the establishment, but have a drink, lunch or dinner dished up to you by very friendly servers.

Originally founded in 2004 as Peccadillo’s by David Freeman, the tavern later changed its name to Sluggers Sports Bar & Grill and has gone on to become downtown’s premier sports bar with handcrafted hardwood décor and sports memorabilia attractively displayed throughout the establishment.

Offering a take-out or delivery menu, as a restaurant, Sluggers has a reasonably priced family friendly menu that includes homemade soups, Paninis, wraps, and an ample variety of fresh salads along with tasty entree selections such as hand cut filet mignon and rib eye steaks, fish, pizzas and over 31 flavors of wings. They also are one of the only two places in downtown serving beer batter pickles.

When it comes to wings and bar food in downtown Erie, there is a bounty of options available. State Street, being lined with restaurants and pubs and almost all of which offering regular food and drink specials competing for your business, Sluggers seems to stand out from the rest.

In the summer, they are outside serving potato salad, pork or chicken and Ribs that are falling off the bone along with slaw. The only place in town I know of where you can get a mmm mmm good backyard barbeque that is inexpensive as well.

Sluggers’ service is fantastic, the servers are polite, quick and are well informed about not only the menu items and specials, but they seem to have a handle on the entertainment the venue has to offer as well. The staff treats you with hometown hospitality, while maintaining their big city edge.

Sluggers’ plays all kinds of music, mainly music that will definitely make you feel some energy, and from time to time they feature local bands such as the M-80’s and Geek Army. On Thursday nights Sluggers entertains you with Karaoke and on Friday and Saturday, some of Erie’s best DJ’s heat up the night with some of you’re favorite dance tunes.

Featuring 45 televisions, Sluggers Sports Bar & Grill offers the opportunity to watch your favorite team and pay per view main events such as the Junior dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin matchup in a heavyweight bout that will determine the number one contender for the UFC heavyweight title this June 11th at 9pm.

If you’re looking for a good time, great food that is reasonably priced, with a fantastic relaxing atmosphere and off the hook entertainment, Sluggers is your one stop shop for a good time.
