Erie’s Exclusive Brewpub and Restaurant
By Cindy Hemper
This week’s sidewalk series features a one of a kind establishment that offers fresh locally handcrafted ales along with some of the best food in town. The Brewerie at Union Station offers a unique atmosphere as only being housed in a restored 1920s train station could.
Unlike many of our other local taverns and restaurants, the Brewerie at Union Station has not only food that is excellent, but also a mega variety of locally made beers and ales that are unmatched in any other tavern around town. Trying the local beer is an absolute must, but the menu is as extensive and diverse as any I have seen, allowing anybody to find something that will suit their taste.
With a breathtaking Rotunda, an old-fashioned style Tap Room and an intimate private balcony the Brewerie at Union Station offers the ambiance that will appeal to even the most discriminating of diners.
The service at the Brewerie at Union Station is amazing, I had dinner there twice and both times the staff was very attentive, and a fantastically unique menu that offers many items made with beer in the recipe. Every dish I had was very good. The establishment boasts an inventive selection of sandwiches and the pulled pork, very good but spicy. The mussels steamed in beer were tender and tasty while the fries tasted freshly made. I must also say that the bread pudding desert is well made and very satisfying.
I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices. They also have a small store where you can purchase t-shirts or take home some of the great beers especially the three-berry wheat, and a chocolate beer. The servers are always cheerful and helpful, while the bartenders seem to be able to make most any drink. Overall, both of my experiences could not have been better.
In addition to everything else, this establishment offers a Trackside Beer Garden for those who might find kicking back, drinking a cold one while watching the trains roar by a cool way to take a break from their day.
If you love live music, then the Brewerie at Union Station can accommodate your craving hosting some of the best live music in town. Some of the fantastic upcoming shows include June 17 Claire Stuczynski 9-12am, June 18 Seamus McTweet 9-12am, June 24 Bus 17 9-12am and June 25 Old Dawg Bluegrass WSG Dom Decco 6-11pm.
If you’re looking for a one of a kind dining and drinking experience with fantastic historic architecture, excellent service and food, then the Brewerie at Union Station is a must visit.
