Second Sundays Programming
January 14, 1:30 – 4:00 p.m.
The Erie Art Museum offers the educational program, Second Sundays, every month. This free program features art on display in the Museum, a tour in the gallery, and a hands-on activity. The next program will take place on Sunday, January 14, from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m.
The Museum is excited to host exhibiting artist Daniel Burke, who will lead a tour of his retrospective: Callings, currently on display in the Main Gallery. After the guided tour, visitors can participate in an art-making activity inspired by the exhibit.
Burke will lead a tour for adults at 1:30 p.m., followed by a tour for children and visitors of all ages at 2 p.m. After the artist’s presentation participants are invited to paint an aluminum bird – a common theme throughout this exhibit – designed by Burke and manufactured by Fralo Industries. Choose from our selection of acrylic paints, magazines, feathers, and clothespins to decorate your bird. Visitors can take their artwork home or find a place for the bird to perch in the exhibit! Children will be invited to take one of Burke’s birds from the exhibit and replace it with one of their own designed bird ornaments.
Daniel Burke is an art professor and research fellow at Mercyhurst University. His exhibit Callings: Six years of art and education will be on display through April 8, 2018.
Fralo Industries is an Erie-owned business since 1979.They fabricate precise metal components, complex weldments, finished assemblies, as well as smart electrical control panels for a wide range of industries worldwide. They took a radical departure from their typical orders to laser cut and buff 600 aluminum birds designed by Dan Burke. This generous donation allows visitors to decorate and install their own Burke bird in and around the Museum’s lobby as part of the Second Sundays festivities.
Second Sundays provides FREE admission to the Erie Art Museum from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with tours at 1:30 and 2PM and an exhibit-based art activity from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. This program is made possible with support from Erie Insurance, Erie Arts and Culture and PA Cyber School.
