The Glorious Ones Returns to the Playhouse Stage for One Night Only!

Following their win for Outstanding Production last weekend at the PACT (PA Association of Community Theatres) theatre festival in Williamsport, PA, the Playhouse will present The Glorious Ones for one special performance on Sunday, April 2 at 7:30 pm at the Playhouse.

All proceeds from this performance will benefit the Playhouse trip to Wilmington, Delaware April 6-9 to compete in the ESTA (Eastern States Theatre Association) regional theatre competition. Should they win at regionals, they will move on to the national competition this summer in Rochester, MN. This is the same theatre competition that earned the Playhouse the honor of being one of the ten best community theatres in the nation the last time they participated in 1986.

The production was also recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Acting (Shawn Clerkin, Jean Malthaner, Kate Amatuzzo), Outstanding Ensemble, Outstanding Achievement in Directing (Almitra Clerkin), Outstanding Achievement in Costumes (Ryan Ingram and Crystal Corritore), Outstanding Achievement in Set Design (Christine Daugherty), and Outstanding Achievement in Choreography (Jean Malthaner). In all, the Playhouse received 10 awards at the state competition.

The Glorious Ones, based on the novel by noted author, Francine Prose, was hailed by The New York Times as “a valentine to the actor’s life – joyfully naughty, with buoyant music by Stephen Flaherty and a bawdy book by Lynn Ahrens.”

Both slapstick and serious, the musical tells how an Italian theatre troupe came to be and how it captured the public’s adoration with its ribald comedy… before changing artistic fashion altered its way of life. It follows six archetypal characters – the charismatic leading man, the sly harlequin, the old miser, the voluptuous leading lady, the devoted dwarf and the elegant Moon Woman – as they search for glory and fame, love and immortality.

The Glorious Ones is under the direction/staging of Almitra Clerkin with Commedia dell’arte direction by Alaina Manchester and musical direction by Michael Malthaner. The show features the talents of Kate Amatuzzo, Almitra Clerkin, Shawn Clerkin, Jean Malthaner, Bob Martin, and Patrick Thiem.

Let’s fill the house and show our support for the cast and crew!
