Leading Ladies at the Erie Playhouse
A Hilarious Comedy!
The laugh-a-minute farce Leading Ladies takes center stage at the Erie Playhouse July 12-28.
Leading Ladies is written by Ken Ludwig, who has also penned Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo – both produced by the Playhouse to rave reviews.
Set in Pennsylvania during the 1950s, Leading Ladies is the story of two down-on-their-luck Shakespearean actors Leo Clark (Patrick Thiem) and Jack Gable (Chris Bucci) who are finding it difficult to survive on the Moose Lodge circuit, where their hammy overacting turns off an already hostile audience. When they learn that Florence (Betsy Butoryak), an elderly woman in the town of York, is about to die, the desperate, perpetually broke duo decides to impersonate Max and Steve, the British nephews to whom she has bequeathed a fortune. Learning that the nephews are really nieces, Maxine and Stephanie, doesn’t deter them. They break out their finest female garb along with lipstick, rouge, and face powder. What ensues is endless hilarity filled with romantic entanglements and plenty of high-jinx.
The love interests are played by Kate Amatuzzo and Chatiqua Keyes-Carr. Other cast members adding to the endless amusement include Fred Monahan, Alan Koch and Dave DiCola.
Charles Corritore directs, with Joe Hassler designing and lighting the set and Angela Howell creating the costumes.
Leading Ladies at the Erie Playhouse – audiences will find it hard to take a breath between laughs.
