Manufacturing VP to Discuss Next Phase of Industry

Penn State Behrend to host Advanced Manufacturing Forum Sept. 21

Industry 4.0 is expected to be the next phase in the digitization of manufacturing and the fourth major shift for this sector in the modern era. Utilizing cyber-physical systems, it has the potential to create what has been called a “smart factory.”

But how might it apply to companies here in the Erie region?

That will be the topic of discussion at “The Advanced Manufacturing Forum 2017: Industry 4.0.” The forum, co-sponsored by the School of Engineering and the Black School of Business at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Bayfront Convention Center, 1 Sassafras Pier, Erie.

Ashe Menon, vice president of manufacturing for NOV Wellbore Technologies, will deliver the keynote address, “Internet of Manufacturing: Reality or Pipedream?”, where he will discuss how this next industry phase has the potential to dramatically change companies’ operations while also outlining the potential limitations of the shift.

Additional presentations include:

  • “Industry 4.0: The Network Is The Machine Tool”
    • Dave Edstrom, CEO/CTO, Virtual Photons Electrons, LLC
  • “Industry 4.0: How Do You Spell That?”
