Meadville Community Theatre Presents “First Date”

Who doesn’t love a blind date? Well, of course, that is to say…who does?!

Welcome to “First Date,” the smash musical comedy fresh off Broadway. This delightfully relatable show gives us the glimpse into the initial encounter between “blind date virgin” Aaron (played by Mitchell King) and serial dater Casey (played by Ellen McCarthy). When the two New Yorkers are set up by Casey’s sister, sparks fly – or do they? The night unfolds into hilarious chaos with unexpected appearances of helpful best friends, Machiavellian exes, and over protective parents, literal manifestations of Aaron’s and Casey’s inner “critics.” This wonderfully colorful cast of characters will keep you entertained through Google background checks, awkward pauses, and conversational battlefields. And throughout it all, you will be rooting for Aaron and Casey to come out on top of this potential dating disaster. Or not.

Directed by Sonia Neu, with a book written by Austin Winsberg and lyrics by Alan Zachary & Michael Weiner, you are sure to reminisce about your own first date(s) while enjoying this whimsical and creative musical.

(Disclaimer: This show falls somewhere between PG-13 and R on a rating scale; it’s not Full Monty, but it’s also not The Music Man. Plan accordingly)
