Student-Run Radio Station 90.5WERG Celebrates 40th Anniversary
Gannon University’s radio station 90.5 WERG celebrates its history this year marking 40 years since the creation of the student-run media outlet.
WERG is taking a trip down memory lane by asking Gannon alumni who were previously affiliated with WERG to submit an audio clip of their experience working for the station, along with their favorite memory.
Submissions date the station back to when it first signed on air in December 1972. Some alumni’s original WERG audio clips even refer to the now University as its formerly known “Gannon College!”
The station has seen significant changes in its technology as it has grown and evolved; along with an “unprecedented interest among non-majors who applied for air-shifts and various other positions at the station” this year said WERG Operations Manager, Chet LaPrice.
“90.5 WERG provides a healthy, creative and stimulating learning experience in broadcast operations and management, while offering unique programming for Gannon and the Erie community,” said LaPrice.
The student-run radio station continues to incorporate digital technology into its operations through online contests, social media and, believe it or not 1972 alumni, portable global streaming – something WERG never fathomed when it began!
Tune into 90.5 WERG to hear the alumni’s stories on-air, and for more information on the station.
