The Groove at the Sloppy Duck
By Terry Pentelli
This Saturday night, August 9th at 8pm, the Sloppy Duck Saloon gets ready to rock the house with the sizzling sounds of sweet Soul, and the funkiest Motown around with Erie’s hottest, most high energy band, The Groove.
The Sloppy Duck Saloon and JR’s on The Bay Restaurant is located at 726 West Bayfront Parkway, Ste 1, and is a very casual restaurant overlooking Presque Isle Bay and the Bay Harbor Marina and can easily accommodate large parties as well as a tasty dinner for two.
The Tiki Bar area is outdoors and nicely shaded so that even on a hot summer afternoon or evening you can still sit in comfort. The Tiki Bar also features entertainment ranging from best live bands in town to even karaoke all summer long.
While the atmosphere is truly among the best in town, the food is well above average. They offer a very casual menu of various fried foods, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads served quickly and graciously, along with your choice of just about any Beer, Ale, or mixed drinks at prices that rock almost as much as the bands that perform there.
The Sloppy Duck stage will take a jump back to a time when music transformed America, with a band that delivers an express thrill ride into pop music paradise, with The Groove cranking out a non-stop blitz of hits with unbridled power and energy, and an arsenal of killer tunes.
The Groove cranks out super energized killer covers of songs like “Billy Jean” by Michael Jackson, “Living in America” by James Brown, “Mesmerized” by Ja Rule, “Shining Star” by Earth, Wind & Fire, “Fame” by Irene Cara, “I’m Looking for a New Love” by Jody Watley, “Ladies Night” by Kool & the Gang, “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” by Lou Rawls, along with “I’ll Be Around” by The Spinners, and of course phenomenal renditions of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “I Will Always Love You” both by Whitney Houston, along with so many more, all delivered with style, panache, and hard driving stage presence.
Running wild on all cylinders, The Groove features a lineup of master musicians with an all entertainment, all the time attitude that features Tim Papotnik on Keyboard and Vocals, Tony Ferrara on Guitar and Vocals, Paul Grenberg on Bass Guitar, Jim Dowds on Drums, Brittany Morton on Female Lead Vocals, and the unparalleled Roy Hollis Jr on Male Lead Vocals.
Since April of this year, The Groove added the most badass, bitchn’ horn section in town that features Geoff Wands on Sax, Brian Hannah on Trumpet, and Kent Tucker on Trombone.
Offering that supersaturated horn sound that was epitomized by artists like Al Green, The Groove pumps out wicked sounds with their three piece horn section that makes the music come alive. The Groove’s epic horn section brings back the classic sound of Motown and guarantees that whether you’re young or old, they’ll make a party rock, and everyone in the house jump.
With the dynamite, pulse pounding vocals of Brittany Morton and Roy Hollis Jr, a relentless rhythm section, and brass-knuckle horns, The Groove brings that laid-back, sweaty grooves, and front-pew power of the great Southern Soul era, and the mad energy of Motown’s heyday to Erie stages.
Get out, throw back and party like a Rock Star this Saturday night at The Sloppy Duck, and fill up on some savage drink specials, and the best ass kicking, balls-to-the-walls music this side of Detroit, and party all night with The Groove at the hottest, biggest blowout bash of the weekend.
