Allegheny College Civic Symphony Showcases Talents of Students, Faculty and Community Members

The Allegheny College Civic Symphony, under the direction of Jennifer Dearden, will perform its fall concert on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. in Shafer Auditorium. Admission is free.

Cellist Susanna Reilly will be the featured soloist on Tchaikovsky’s “Pezzo Capriccioso.” An adjunct cello teacher at Allegheny since 2007, Reilly has performed in cello sections of symphony orchestras in Santa Barbara, California; Wheeling, West Virginia; Youngstown, Ohio; and Erie, Pennsylvania.

The program will also include the overture to Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro”; “Three King Strut” by John Henry Hopkins Jr.; “Mamma Mia!” by Benny Andersson, Stig Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus; “Psalm and Fugue” by Alan Hovhaness; and “Return of the Monarchs” by Victor Lopez.

The Civic Symphony includes community members as well as Allegheny students and faculty.
