The 2nd Annual Community Call To Peace Event
By Julie Caldwell
This Saturday, February 22nd at 6pm PACA is set to host the 2nd Annual Community Call to Peace event that will raise money to help keep children between the ages of 10 and 19 off the streets.
The event is organized by the “Mothers Against Teen Violence”, or M.A.T.V. that was founded by Sonya Arrington and strives to eliminate teen violence in Erie through youth mentoring and community education.
Sonya Arrington founded M.A.T.V. after the shooting death of her son Steve Arrington in January of 2010. Her desire to make a difference in the community gave birth to a youth mentoring program for children after school and during the summer called LEAD or “Leadership Empowerment Accountability Diversity.”
M.A.T.V. is currently working to find additional ways to reduce youth and gun violence in Erie, and encourages community participation in these efforts.
The Arrington family tragedy led to collaborations with many individuals and organizations who share the vision of reducing and abolishing youth violence in Erie.
The event will feature performances by musical artists that will include local Blues master Rodger Montgomery, Strangers N’ Liars, C. Brown, Lower Eastside Connection (LEC), Doc Proto, Honey B, and the phenomenal Ne Riche.
Additionally, the event will offer readings by Spoken Word Artists such as, Luchetta Manus, Deidra B, and Cee Williams.
Come out Saturday evening and support a much needed cause and help keep the peace.
PACA is located at 1505 State Street, and the entire event is BYOB. For more information on this event, please contact Sonya Arrington at (814) 572-9567 or through email at matv2010@gmail.com.
