Underground Erie Rocks This Weekend

By Lucas Scotts

This weekend three of the hardest hitting, most phenomenal shows with the most incredibly hard driving bands the Erie Underground scene has to offer will be rockn’ the City from one end to the other. From the jooseBeer Mug on Friday night, to Basement Transmissions on Saturday, and back to the Beer Mug Saturday night, the underground rages to the top of the heap this weekend.

On Valentine’s Day, Friday February 14th at 9:30pm, Gimp Guy Underground and Alex Harilla brings five of the most talented bands and performers in town. Gimp Guy Underground has been opening the doors and bringing attention to those dedicated and hard working musicians who keep our scene real for nearly ten years.

On the bill this Friday at the Beer Mug located at 1108 Liberty St, Erie, is JC Nickles, Britches, Auda Kontroll, Dredneks, and Blue Pike Music Award winners, Joose.

As a very creative and talented songwriter, and a high-energy and power packed entertainer, JC Nickles really knows how to crank out the tunes and rock any stage in town. Every performance Nickles gives is more than a show, it’s a not to be missed experience.

Britches, aka Brit Soule is a really crafty song writer that pours out passion filled lyrics and killer fingerpicking work that all makes for a blast of a performance.

As an Experimental/Electro Punk, acoustic act that always rocks the house every song, Auda Kontroll is constantly cranking out fresh and disturbingly rich tunes that are extreme and wicked.

Dredneks are a slick, sick Punk/Metal band that has the most melodic sound with a funky twist that you’ve ever heard. From Olean New York, the Dredneks are supercharged and always give off the never stop the party attitude.

As one of the newest, freshest, and coolest bands playing out today, Joose hits you hard with some of the best music of the indie Rock scene and does it with rocket ship like energy. Made up of Mitch Wettich, Jack Stauber, Matt George, and Alex Kirschner, Joose is always unique and never ordinary and one of the best bands in town.

If you wanna hear some off the hook music by awesome musicians, don’t be any place else but the Beer Mug this Friday.

On Saturday February 15th, jump over to the other side of town to Basement Transmissions located at 1501 State St for the Alzheimer’s Association Benefit Show, featuring four smokin’ hot bands including Sea of Teeth, Northern Weather, Archway, and Motives.

Organized by Isaac Bicko, the front man of Northern Weather, this Alzheimer’s Association Benefit Show will donate all proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association which works on a global, national and local level to Northern Weatherenhance care and support for all those affected by Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

Made up of James Quirk, Cam Smith, Alik Kujkowski, Derek Hoenes, and Jordan Scarpelli, Sea of Teeth creates pile driver music with wicked musicianship.

Northern Weather is a group of four ultra talented musicians that crank out super melodic original music with high energy stage shows and passionate delivery. Northern Weather is a wicked Punk band made of Tyler Hickernell on Bass, TJ Hess on Guitar, Nick Travis on Drums, and Isaac Bicko on Guitar and Vocals.

As a Punk band with a Pop edge, Archway is made up of six super talented musicians that churn out break the boundaries style music with high throttle energy and an in your face stage show. With members Shane Kilgore, Chad Kilgore, Joshua Studnicki, Anthony Anglikowski, Brent Kytchak, and Tommy Shannon, Archway is a must experience band.

Finally, coming all the way from Cleveland Ohio, Motives is a band that drips with talent and is a rhythmic based Hard Core band that pushes the limits, and cranks out insane shows. Made up of Kevin Burrows, Tony Reed, Dan Ackerman, Ian Slagle, and Peter Reilly, Motives drops the bomb, brings the noise, and will blow the roof off Basement Transmissions this Saturday.

From 5:30pm until 10:30pm Basement Transmissions is the place to be for the best killer show that supports an amazing cause, don’t be any place else!

Keep the party rolling Saturday night over to the Beer Mug for another sick show from Gimp Guy Underground with bands Crazies, Till the End, Oh No! It’s Mustard Gas, and Red Morning Hour.

The Crazies, are just that, a wicked crazy group of four talented Hard Core musicians that melt your mind with original music and insane attitude. Made up of Dan Bonasera on Bass and backup Vocals, Will Pihl on Drums, Jordan Jankow on Guitar and Vocals, and Jimmy Skrzeczkowski a Lead Vocals, the Crazies guarantee a manic night.

With Drummer Brandon Glover, Bassist Sarah Winans, Josh Burroughs on Guitar and Vocals, and Brian Latimer on Lead Guitar and Lead Vocals, “Till the End” may be a band that is new to the scene, but is racing to the top as mad musicians with scary talent.

Oh No! It’s Mustard Gas is an explosive band that blast the sounds of original Punk, hard and heavy, and are a sure bet to blow the roof off the Beer Mug this Saturday night. Made up of four “Local 80” members that include Doug Erickson on Guitar, Dan Erickson on Drums, Matt Munro on Guitar and David Nicewonger on Lead vocals and Guitar, along with Kyle Wodarski on Bass Guitar, Oh No! It’s Mustard Gas got the talent, the experience, and the balls.

As a band of hard-hitting veteran musicians, Red Morning Hour is crazy good and cranks out some of the Red Morning Hourmost devastating original tunes of any band in town. Made up of Tory Shatto on Drums from AK-37, and Rob Rounds from Sabotage Theory and AK-37 on Vocals and Guitar, along with Justin Penton on Guitar, and Mike Grande on Bass Guitar, Red Morning Hour is every kind of badass you can think of.

The show at the Beer Mug Saturday night kicks off at 9:30pm and is only four bucks for four bands, and will rock all night until 2am.

This weekend the underground is on fire with three bangn’ shows, with thirteen bitchn’ bands and Artists, so come out, show the love, and help keep the scene alive and strong.
