Get Your Geek On
By Jenna Croyle
With all the absolutely amazing bands and disturbingly talented musicians that capture our attention and dominate our scene, it is very difficult to choose one band over another each week as the Featured Musician.
With years of experience under their belts, a cumulative talent that is startling, and a laundry list of awards to their credit, along with one of the most high energy and exciting stage shows in town, this week’s Featured Band, Geek Army easily stood out from the crowd and made this week’s choice a no brainer.
Geek Army is a diverse and multi talented dynamo of fist pumping music that can rock any venue they play, while their always capacity crowds party hard all night to what is arguably Erie’s most popular cover band.
Made up of four of the most electrifying musicians in town, Geek Army is comprised of Terry Wood on Lead Vocals, Dennis Hultberg on Bass, Rich Grisier on Lead Guitar, and Jim Watkins on Drums.
Sweeping the RockErie Music Awards every year, Geek Army has Won Best Cover Band for three consecutive years, Terry Wood has won Best Male Vocalist two years in a row, Dennis Hultberg walked away with Best Bassist in both 2008 and 2009, while Rich Grisier has took the Best Guitarist in 2009 along with Jim Watkins winning Best Drummer in 2009, as well.
With a hard-hitting set list that just will not stop, Geek Army always delivers a power packed and high-octane show with brilliant covers of the best music of our time, offering their fans what seems to be a never-ending repertoire of a variety of both Rock and Country gold.
Among their keep-you-on-the-dance-floor-all-night-party music, Geek Army fires out such songs as “Detroit Rock City” by KISS, “Porn Star Dancing” by My Darkest Days, “Girls, Girls, Girls” by Motley Crue, “Love Somebody” and “Jesse’s Girl” by Rick Springfield, “No More Tears” by Ozzy, “Metallica Medley,” “Sex On Fire” by Kings Of Leon, “Anyway You Want It” by Journey, “Sweet Emotion” by Aerosmith, “Crazy Bitch” by Buck Cherry, “Hard To Handle” by Black Crowes, “Nothin’ But A Good Time” by Poison, “Summer of ’69” by Bryan Adams, along with “Down With The Sickness” by Disturbed and so many more that pump you up and keep you flying high all night.
For those who love the Country jams, Geek Army has what you want with smoking covers of hot hits like “Save A Horse” by Big n Rich, “Devil Went Down to Georgia” by the Charlie Daniels Band, and “Friends In Low Places” by Garth Brooks, along with others.
Rich Grisier’s Lead Guitar simply wails, with slamming riffs, devastating melodies and supercharged presentation, as he sets the strings on fire and gives unforgettable performances every show.
The Bass beats of Dennis Hultberg are truly phenomenal, offering intense and mammoth lines that have flawless harmony with the Lead Guitar, and a vibrant style that pulsates with every note, making Hultberg’s playing among the best Erie has to offer.
Jim Watkins pounds out some of the most dynamic and spot on reverberations that have ever come off a local stage and are saturated with energy and flair, setting Watkins a beat above other drummers and making him an indispensable component to the Geek Army sound and one of the most gifted Drummers in town.
As the consummate performer, the driving force behind not only the band, but also the energy of every show, and perhaps the most charismatic front man in town, Terry Wood continuously delivers star quality performances that are dripping with talent and flamboyance. While his strong and versatile voice and party hard attitude steals the show and keeps the audience on overdrive all night, Wood always brings his best to the stage, making and keeping a unique connection with his audience that continues long after the show has ended.
Playing every hard rocking song you could want to hear at a live show, with musicians that give new meaning to the word talent, and having that party in a bottle energy, Geek Army sets that standard for party hard Erie cover bands.
