Mary Poppins at the Erie Playhouse

 “practically perfect in every way.”

It’s a high-flying, holiday season on the Mainstage at the Erie Playhouse as they mount the toe-tapping extravaganza – Disney & Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins December 5 – January 5.

Based on the book by P.L. Travers and the classic Disney film, Mary Poppins is the story of the Banks family who live in London on Cherry Tree Lane. The children, Jane and Michael, are out of control and in need of a new nanny.  They have their own ideas about what sort they should have, while their parents – in particular Mr. Banks – are insistent on someone strict for the job.

When Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she’s the answer to their prayers, but in a most peculiar way. While she takes the children on magical adventures, they aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “anything can happen if you let it.”

The deliciously, delightful Mary Poppins is brought to life by the popular Erie actress Kate Neubert-Lechner, while her friend and sidekick Bert, the loveable chimney sweep, is portrayed by another favorite Playhouse performer – Charles Corritore. Jane & Michael Banks are played by Audrey Ward and Ben Lariccia respectively and their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Banks, by Steve Ropski and Christine Carmichael. A talented singing and dancing ensemble will fill the stage with musical magic.

Once again, the Erie Playhouse has employed the talents of ZFX Flying to fly Mary Poppins and to facilitate Bert’s gravity-defying tap dance around the stage proscenium. Other magical effects are being created by Erie magician, Bobby Borgia, with MoreFrames AnimationCo designing the stage projections.  Mary Poppins promises to be quite the spectacle.

Richard Davis directs and choreographs, with Andrew Rainbow as vocal and music director. Richard Davis and Angela Howell handle costume design and Joe Hassler will provide the set & lighting design.

Disney & Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins – your best bet for family entertainment this holiday season featuring an irresistible story and unforgettable songs – you will leave the theatre singing favorite refrains from “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “A Spoonful of Sugar,” Chim, Chim, Cher-ee,” and more.
