Shakespearean Photo Shoot to Entertain Audience Before ‘Twelfth Night’ Comedy
The Mercyhurst Institute for Arts & Culture presents the Aquila Theatre Company’s “Twelfth Night” by William Shakespeare on Sunday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. in the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center.This rollicking comedy has it all – a shipwreck, romance and side-splitting quips.
From the master of insult and merriment comes the tale of young aristocrat Viola who washes up on the shore of Illyria and disguises herself as a man to work as a Duke’s page. Quickly she finds herself tangled in the midst of a hilarious love triangle of mistaken identities in this wild Shakespearean ride. Performed by the Aquila Theatre Company, the foremost producer of touring classical theater in the United States and abroad, “Twelfth Night” promises to delight audiences young and old.
At 1 p.m., Mercyhurst faculty and a member of the cast will lead an intimate pre-show discussion to brush up on Shakespeare. Then, head to the Cummings Art Gallery where the costume team will be on hand with racks of fun items to gild guests in Shakespearean finery and snap a photo.
Founded in London in 1991 and based in New York City since 1999, the Aquila Theatre Company has gone on to win popular, critical and academic acclaim worldwide. The company regularly appears at international festivals with performances in places as diverse as Carnegie Hall, the Ancient Stadium at Delphi, The Los Angeles Cathedral Plaza and the White House.
