Teachers on Tap – Teachers by Day, Performers by Night

Once again the Erie Playhouse will present Teachers on Tap– a concert of Broadway show tunes performed by some of the talented teachers who perform on the Playhouse stage – for one performance only, Saturday, March 2 at 7:30pm.

Teachers on Taphas become an annual event at the Erie Playhouse. In addition to showcasing the talented teacher/performers, they also choose to honor an outstanding educatorwho has performed on their stage. Previous honorees include Dr. Doris Snell (Edinboro University) and Bob Martin (McDowell High School).

Many Playhouse favorites will grace the stage, including Kate Amatuzzo, Ken Brundage, Patty Corella, Chris Dearbeck, Jerry Gill, Leah Johnson, Bob Martin, Chris & Julie Moore, Kate Murosky and many more.

This year the Erie Playhouse will pay tribute to Judith Matthews –for her years of dedication and love in the classroom and at the Erie Playhouse as actress, choral and orchestra director. She will receive the “Doris Snell” award, so named for the first honoree. Song selections for the evening will be taken from shows Judy has appeared on stage in or worked on as music director.

Wife of former Playhouse Managing Director, David Matthews, Judy has been an energetic figure in and behind the scenes at the Erie Playhouse and has graced the Playhouse stage in over 40 shows.

Judy’s career in education has spanned over 50 years where she has fulfilled many roles – student teacher supervisor at Mercyhurst University, staff developer, and teacher in New Castle Schools and Wattsburg Area School District.

Included in the ticket price ($26.50) will be beer selections, root beer, pub snacks and a complimentary logo pint glass.
